This wonderful handmade stretcher table is based on the classic Irish style with a square chamfered leg. The double stretcher is a characteristic feature of old Irish country tables. This one was commissioned to accommodate three drawers. It is made of English oak and English elm with an oil finish. Oak is one of the hardest and most durable timbers in the world. Elm is also strong and durable with a tight-twisted grain, and is particularly resistant to water.
An Irish stretcher table is a traditional table design originating from Ireland, characterized by its sturdy construction, distinctive stretcher design, and rustic charm. These tables are a hallmark of 17th and 18th-century Irish furniture, often associated with rural craftsmanship and simplicity.
