Steve’s trestle console design is hugely popular with customers visiting the showroom. This particular simple but stunning handmade English oak console table is a little bit different to the regular style. The top and base have been finished with two different colours of oil for contrast. There’s a handy drawer incorporated into the top which just adds to its contemporary feel. This particular example is 1.2m long by 350mm deep and 850mm high. Steve originally made the console table in English oak but it can be made in any of our wonderful homegrown hardwoods or reclaimed timber.

A trestle console table combines two distinct furniture design elements: the narrow profile of a console table with the supportive trestle base system that has been used in furniture making for centuries. Let me break this down to help you fully understand its unique characteristics.

What makes a trestle console table distinctive is how it adapts this ancient support system for a narrower, more space-efficient form. While traditional console tables might use four legs or two front legs with wall support, the trestle design creates a stable foundation using just two points of contact with the floor. This creates an interesting visual interplay between the substantial base and the relatively slim tabletop.
