This Rockingham chair is a very modern take on the traditional armed chair. It is made for Steve in a combination of English Ash and English pippy oak by English based Sitting Firm Chairmakers. The fabulous continuous flow of the steam bent arm and back is highlighted by the painted finish. You can choose whatever make and colour of paint, or finish that you’d like.

A Rockingham dining chair represents a traditional dining chair design that draws inspiration from English and American colonial furniture traditions. Let me explain its key characteristics and design elements to help you understand what makes this style distinctive.

From a design perspective, the chair often features subtle decorative elements that elevate its appearance without becoming overly ornate. You might notice gentle curves in the top rail of the back, sometimes called the crest rail, which adds a touch of sophistication to the overall silhouette. The legs typically showcase traditional turning work, particularly on the front legs, which adds visual interest and speaks to the craft heritage of this style.
