It’s time to talk about chairs!
Chairs are fascinating pieces of furniture that are easy to take for granted. The choice of a chair can communicate function, status, lifestyle, emotion or comfort. We even describe chairs in a similar way to that of people and talk about feet, legs, seats, backs and arms.
Steve has an extensive range of bespoke handmade chairs available for you to choose from. They are all specially designed and chosen to compliment your choice of table. He creates his own handmade chairs in the workshop at Folly Farm, as well as working closely with chair-making specialists such as Sitting Firm Chairmakers based in Coventry.
“Chairs are like little buildings. This is because they have to be beautiful but they also have to be practical. They have to be very structurally sound. Should you need a traditional or more contemporary seating arrangement, Steve can create the right one just for you.”
You can see lots of different styles on the site under SEATING but to help get you started here are a few examples below, from local traditional English styles through to contemporary chairs with international flair:
-LARGE STICK BACK SIDE CHAIR You could go traditional and choose a Windsor chair. The Windsor chair varieties of England and Wales are as varied and as particular to the locality as for instance English cheeses or French wines. The stick back is typical of chairs originating in the Chiltern Hills, particularly the area around High Wycombe. This one is crafted in English ash for Steve by English based Sitting Firm Chairmakers.
-LADDER FRAME CHAIR Maybe you’d like something a little more classic. This chair is carefully handmade for Steve to his own specifications and can be further customised depending on your needs. Its natural style means that it would compliment a wide range of interior schemes. The careful wooden peg detailing and comfortable woven seat adds to the chair’s character. Crafted in English beech, it can be protected in a finish of your choice.
-EVIE SIDE CHAIR Alternatively how about something more unusual like this stunning contemporary styled chair that cleverly combines Scandinavian design with the Windsor tradition? Designed by Wales & Wales and handmade in English ash for Steve by English based Sitting Firm Chairmakers. With its steam bent splat and low set steam bent bow, this is a chair that provides great support to the lower back.
