This traditional handmade oak tavern table is charming and full of character, the timber Steve used had some beautiful grain and lots of burr radiating throughout the surface. He remembers buying the timber from a farmer who had a barn full of old planks and beams of English oak. This table is typical of the type of furniture that was commonly found in taverns, inns, and pubs, particularly during the 17th and 18th centuries. These tables were typically designed for social gatherings, meals, and drinks, providing a sturdy and functional surface for people to gather around.

These tables were often made from solid wood, such as oak or pine, which was readily available at the time. The wood was chosen for its durability to withstand heavy use.

While modern interpretations of tavern tables may include more refined finishes and contemporary designs, the traditional tavern table evokes a sense of warmth, community, and practicality.
