Steve is increasingly being asked to make bespoke handmade desks. It’s probably because when you’re working from home there’s nothing like a good desk. A desk that is both practical to use and pleasing to work at.
Steve will help you design and craft your desk to meet your individual needs. Whether that’s to fit in the corner of a room, or as part of a dedicated home office with a full range of complimentary furniture. This particular traditional style desk was created for a new home office. It was handmade by Steve in solid English oak. The desk features a combination of four drawers and a small cupboard with a chamfered door. Steve also made a pair of matching bookcases to go with it.
- What Makes A Desk
The word “desk” originates from the Latin word “desca” which means “table to write on”. This is because in the past desks were found primarily in monasteries or universities. It was in these great institutions that books were written and read. Desks were designed with sloping tops to support the large parchment volumes that took up their whole surface.
- Different Types Of Desk
These days desks come in all shapes and sizes. Their many styles reflect our varied modern office and home working requirements. Some are simple writing surfaces with perhaps one or two drawers for filing and storage. While others contain a number of drawers and platforms, designed to work with laptops and computer keyboards.
- Commissioning Your Desk
What’s fun about having a desk made to order is that it’s all about what you want. Steve is here to keep the process nice and simple. As part of your conversations, he will help you to consider timber type and finish. Together you can discuss the dimensions you would like, based on your way of working and the space available. As well as possible storage solutions that could include drawers, shelves, or compartments. The choices are all yours.
