Traditional Joinery Techniques With A Contemporary Twist

With over 30 years experience, Steve enjoys any opportunity to show off his dedication to traditional joinery techniques and to surprise a client with the wonderful versatility of wood. The use of light and dark timbers that he used in the construction of this Modern Refectory Table using traditional joinery techniques for a client in London does just that.
“A quick note to say thank you so much for our new table and for all your help. Being able to speak with you right from the start made such a difference. When I first started looking for a table, I wouldn’t have imagined that we could end up with one that’s handmade in solid wood and yet that looks so fresh and modern.” – Gemma Attersley, Battersea Rise, London
Refectory tables were originally used for dining in monasteries in Medieval times and were created in either oak or walnut. By using an exciting combination of English ash and black walnut Steve has used traditional joinery techniques to give this traditional style of table a very striking and contemporary look.
